The Night Before Your Move: 10 Things to Do So Moving Day Goes Fast
· 3 min read · By Ursa Moving

With hourly moving, the first 30 minutes set the pace. If the crew walks in and can start loading right away, the whole day goes faster. Here's what to finish the night before.
- Finish packing and close every box. Open boxes can't be stacked, and last-minute packing slows the crew.
- Disassemble what you can, or leave it for us (disassembly and reassembly are included). If you do it, put screws in a zip bag and tape it to the piece.
- Pack your day-one box: chargers, meds, documents, toiletries, a change of clothes, toilet paper, snacks, light bulbs, basic tools.
- Set aside what's NOT going: your personal bag, laptop, jewelry, documents. Put them in one closet or your car and tell the crew.
- Empty, defrost and dry the fridge if it's moving.
- Confirm building access: elevator reservation, loading dock time, gate codes, parking spot. If your building needs a certificate of insurance, make sure it's already been sent (we provide COIs).
- Hold a parking spot in front of the building if you can (a car or cones on private property). If you're on a hillside street, tell us; we can bring a pickup with a small closed trailer.
- Clear the path: rugs rolled, hallway cleared, pets in a closed room.
- Charge your phone and print or screenshot your quote with the agreed hourly rate.
- Sleep. You'll make better decisions in the morning.
In the morning
Do a quick walkthrough with the crew lead: what's fragile, what stays, what goes to which room.
